Legacy...or for me its purpose. I decided graphic design for a fertliser firm and being part of a marketing team literally selling shit, lacked purpose. And so I had a crisis at 50 and now I'm training to become a primary school teacher. Legacy is a powerful motivator.
Great stories. You gained a new follower. You nailed the take on the greats, the classic movies; we just know we're in the presence of greatness. I miss those times.
I laughed out loud at the story of setting the VHS tape on fire. I understand this is not the spine of this piece, but I would love to get to the bottom of the Exorcist sistuation someday and suspect I never will. I confess, I do not for the life of me understand why this movie terrified people and apparently continues to do so in en masse. I watched it once and laughed my ass off all the way through at how arch it was.
Thank you for telling me that Conrad Dobler died. My brother used to love him as the "dirtiest football player who ever played the game". He and Mr. Brown played a game that barely resembles the glorified video game that the 21st Century has made out of football; where its most sacred surface, mud, has been permanently exiled at every level above high school Division 4. With that exile, the soul of the game has also fled. Dobler, Brown, "Hacksaw" Reynolds, Bleier, Alzado, Karras, all are the equivalent of Achilles and Hector now; ghosts of the ancient world. Thanks for calling back one of them to me.

Sublime. Thank you, Chief.
@Nick, compliments from you are particularly sweet. Thank you.
Agreed.
As in, agreeing with Nick.

Thank you, Noah. And welcome!
I’ll be worshipping at The Aero tonight I expect, if anyone wants to join. :-)
You are the best.
Aw, thank you @Phil. I just started writing, and this came out.

Thank you for mentioning Harlan Ellison. I once had an interesting conversation with a Kiwi in Wellington who had visited Harlan.
