The Great Sunday Debate: What’s your favorite (dare we say The Best) sitcom?

Okay, listen. I didn’t want to say “best,” I wanted to say “favorite.” But in this one case I do think it’s going to be the same thing, so hear me out. But first, some exposition. Aren’t you excited?

I knew my answer immediately, of course. I also knew that most people would answer Seinfeld. This is not my answer, and never could be, sorry. I don’t hate Seinfeld by any means, so put away your torches and pitchforks, okay? It’s a fantastic show, it redefined the genre, the cast is perfect, the writing superb, blah blah blah…

I’m sorry, but it’s a lazy choice. An easy A. It’s like saying “Kashmir” is the best rock song ever, or The Beatles are your favorite… You know what? I’m going to stop talking now, Mike Gerber.

My other, more major issue with Seinfeld is that there’s only so much I can take when it comes to assholery. Tomfoolery, yes. All day, every day. Assholery? Well, after a few episodes and—yadda yadda yadda—it begins to wear on this girl. I’m not one to advocate for moral uprightness in media (or really anywhere else) and perhaps I’ve just spent too much time on the internet, but 22 minutes with a bunch of assholes is 21:30 more than I need.
