According to UK law, everything funny between 1948-62 had to include, reference or be based on Ronald Searle.

Tonight’s film is the 1951 classic The Lavender Hill Mob, starring Alec Guinness. (I always get this one mixed up with The Ladykillers, which is also good.)

Ealing comedies are always money in the bank, from Kind Hearts and Coronets to this one to The Man in the White Suit. Unfortunately tonight’s movie does not star the husky-voiced voluptunaut Joan Greenwood. All claims that she was able to produce “the brown note” during sex are as-yet-unsubstantiated.

As usual: 6 pm Pacific/9 pm Eastern, in the chat!

STREAMS: HULU, Amazon Prime, and DirecTV.

PS—You can now use a keyboard (not just a phone) to Chat, much more convenient I think: www.substack.com/chat.

I watched the movie yesterday (thanks for the link.) I forgot how side-splittingly funny this movie was.
