I love old movies. I love old movies more than comedy. I love old movies more than some members of my family.
(J/k any members of my family!)
(N/j/k non-members of my family!).
Substack has been hectoring me to enable chat on this blog for about a month now, so to inaugurate…whatever happens next…I’ve decided to live-blog the 1979 comedy 10 directed by Blake Edwards, and starring Dudley Moore and Bo Derek. I’ve somehow never seen this one, so my impressions will be raw and fresh.
WHEN: Tonight, Wednesday February 15 at 6:00 pm Pacific (9:00 EST)
WHERE: Bystander Chat
HOW: Streamable on HBO Max, DirecTV, and the TCM app.
Hope to see some of you there! I’ve pasted instructions on the Substack Chat feature below:
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
Howdy bystanders- I may not make the movie here on the east coast but recently caught the 1968 Dudley Moore film “30 is a dangerous age, Cynthia” on TCM. Kind of a mess, but a wonderful showcase of Moore’s talents, particularly as a comic and pianist. The film features wild flashback and fantasy scenes, kind of a “mod Walter Mitty” vibe. Particularly jarring is seeing what I can only assume was Moore’s influence on Rowan Atkinson, as there are numerous bits which seem to be Mr Bean to a T (for better or worse.) a jumbled, nonsensical film in a lot of ways but a neat watch to expand the kinds of bits that are possible in comic filmmaking.
My finger is on the play button.
